As an artist working primarily in clay, a kiln is an essential piece of equipment for me to have in order to be able to produce work. While working within art schools first as an undergraduate and then a postgraduate, I took all their large pieces of equipment for granted. When it finally came to setting up a studio on my own, I realised I would need substantial funds to even begin to get the most basic items of equipment required. The Eaton Fund for Artists provided me with a grant to purchase a kiln which enabled me to start making and exhibiting again.

I am now about to embark on a one year residency at Newcastle University. The position is within the Fine Art department but the emphasis is on the use of clay within contemporary sculptural practices
